Poem for December

Writer's picture: Claire ChampionClaire Champion

My Seasonal Wish

December arrives cloaked

in a dull, dampened cape.

A little mild, then very wild:

no great difference there.

The cloud-filled skies have

attended throughout the year.

The theme is the trend

that highlights the glare.

Out of this shroud and cloud

appears a shred of hope.

A hint of brightness and

a gleam of uplifting light.

If we were to step outside,

take in the luminous glow.

Perhaps hope will flourish

into more, within our sight.

We could wander through

a local park, wrapped in our

winter gear. Treading the path

breathing it all in fully.

Climb that hill that we can see

from out vantage point in town.

Then we could ignite our

innermost curiosity.

This theory of mine, formed

over a lifetime of wondering.

I want to pass it to all those

I know, I meet, I care about.

A simple desire, but one

with many layers built in.

It slowly expands, floats

around and extends out.

The wish is that we could

find true joy in nature,

not in mindless materialism.

Letting us relax and reset.

Maybe then we would

read each other better,

with special energy

and empathy, not regret.

I’ll put the effort into this,

get the message across.

Relay it to those who want

to receive and carry through.

The trust and confidence

in like-minded humans,

as I walk out into the chilled,

hope-filled air is renewed.

So true, we need to get out there and breathe it all in and relax and just Be!
